Sustainability Chart of Accounts

Sustainability Accounts

Sustainability Chart of Accounts

The Sustainability Chart of Accounts follows a number series similarly to how the General Chart of Accounts is setup. In order to ensure indentation and correct summarizations, begin-total and end-totals must match and follow a numerical system.

Emission balances are displayed on the Sustainability Chart of Accounts. Sustainability Account Cards that are posting type display the relevant balance of emissions for that account. Account type specifies purpose of the account card. Begin-total marks the beginning of a series of accounts to be totaled and End-total marks the end of the series for totaling. This is helpful for categorizing emissions by scopes to see relevant total impact in each scope. Headings can be used for further organization, but do not affect totaling. Within each posting Sustainability Account Card is a Category and Subcategory.

The balance of emissions for each posting account can be expanded to view the history of all emission postings associated with the Sustainability Account Card.

  5. See Field List below which has a short description of the main fields.
The Balances tab is non-editable and only for viewing totals.

Field List

The most important fields to consider are the following:

Field

Description

No.

The unique identity of the account.

REQUIRED

Name

For information

REQUIRED

Category

The Category is really important because it tells what kind of calculation should be done, options on the account are Fuel/Electricity, Distance, Installation, Custom. Categories must be set up before the can be attached to the accounts.

See chapter: Sustainability Account Categories

REQUIRED

Subcategory

Select the Subcategory, to tell how emission is calculated for this account.

(because the emission factors are set up on the subcategories)

REQUIRED

Account Type

Only accounts with “Account Type” = Posting can have entries/figures.

Other accounts are only showing figures by calculating totals of other accounts.

REQUIRED

Totaling

To set up the totaling, only used for Total and End-Totals entries.

Direct Posting

If there is a check mark here, the account can be used manually in sustainability journals. If no check mark, figures are always generated through other postings.

Unit of Measure

Tooltip:

Specifies unit of measure that the sustainability account card is measured in.

OPTIONAL

Sustainability Account Categories

Category

image-20241118-120632.png

Emission scope, type of greenhouse gas, and the calculation foundation must be setup in the Category for calculations to work. If the Calculation Foundation is Custom (such as for packaging) a custom value must be entered (such as kilograms).

Field

Description

Code

The unique identity of the category

REQUIRED

Emission Scope

Options are

  • (blank)

  • Scope 1

  • Scope 2

  • Scope 3

Calculation Foundation

Specifies in which fields in the Sustainable Ledger Entries the calculated amounts will be put into. CONFIRM

Options

  • Fuel/Electricity

  • Distance

  • Installation

  • Custom

REQUIRED

Custom Value

Only used when Calculation Foundation = Custom

CO2

Specifies if the category is used to register CO2 emission.

CH4

Specifies if the category is used to register CH4 emission.

N2O

Specifies if the category is used to register N2O emission.

Calculated from General Ledger Entry

G/L Account

To let the emission values be taken directly from posted general ledger entries.

image-20240627-161805.png

Subcategory

The Subcategory contains the emission factor that will be used in the emission calculations for the Sustainability Account Card. An emission factor for the greenhouse gas selected in the Category must be input for calculations to work. There is fields to indicate if the emission factor is imported and where it is imported from (source).
