Using Stream with Wisefish
Requirements and limitations
Warehouse setup
The warehouse must be organized into Zones and Bins
Each Bin belongs to a specific Zone
Every Bin must have a unique ID (called Bin Code), regardless of which Zone it belongs to. If multiple Zones exist, the Zone identifier should be included in the Bin code.
A Zone can represent an entire warehouse, or a specific section within the warehouse, such as a receiving or a loading area.
There is either a single Zone or Bin where pallets are registered upon receipt before being placed into storage.
There is either a single Zone or Bin where pallets are registered upon, before shipping.
The warehouse may also include Aisles, Racks, Bays and Shelfs, but these IDs are not unique and cannot replace the unique Bin Code. They are primarily for informational purposes.
Location of stock
Each Zone is linked to a single Location Code in Business Central, which is the element which the stock is assigned to.
When using Stream, each sales document can only have one Location Code. If pallets need to be shipped from 2 warehouses, either:
both warehouses must share the same Location Code, or
the sale must be processed using two separate sales documents, usually resulting in two invoices.
Zones do not influence sales document creation. In the case above, the two warehouses may belong to the same or different Zones.
Stream Users are typically assigned to a specific location, ensuring they only see shipping documents relevant to that location.
Pallets and Trade Items
Stream is a pallet-based system, meaning standalone trade items cannot be shipped unless they are on a pallet.
Each pallet must have a unique barcode, which cannot be re-used, even if the original pallet has been sold.
A pallet can only contain one item number and one lot number.
Trade Items can be moved between pallets as long as each pallet maintains only one item number and lot.
A Trade Item can be removed from a pallet and placed “on the floor” (not on pallet), but it cannot be shipped via Stream unless it is placed back onto a barcoded pallet.
Wisefish offers functionality to combine pallets reservation and shipping, but this not recommended for use with Stream.
Working with Pallets
When receiving pallets, there is an option to create them in the system, but only within the receiving module in Stream. In this case, the system already has all the item details (item number, description etc.), and the user only enters…
the number of trade items per pallet
the gross weight of the pallet (optional)
When creating a new pallet, the barcode can:
Be scanned, if the pallet already has one.
Be automatically generated based on the setup in Business Central for that Stock Center.
Pallet labels can be printed using a predefined layout. Customizing the label layout requires additional work.
When moving a pallet to a Bin:
First, the pallet barcode is scanned
Then, the Bin barcode is scanned.
Users can upload pallet pictures into Stream.
Shipping Pallets
When picking pallets for a shipment, the user works with a single shipment document (e.g. Delivery Agreement) at a time.
Stream displays the following details for each sales agreement:
Customer No. and Name
Item number, description and number of trade items to be shipped
Pallet number and Bin location for pallets to be picked
Pallet number and Transport Unit for pallets already picked
Pallets to be picked can either be:
Pre-reserved pallets (when reservation has been done within Business Central)
Selected from available pallets in the warehouse that match the item number and lot requested.
Picking is done by scanning the pallet barcode.
Stream supports two picking processes: One-step and Two-step.
One-step picking: A single scan simultaneously …
Reserves the pallet for the agreement
Moves the pallet to the loading area (outgate)
Assigns the pallet to the pre-selected Transport Unit
Two-step shipping:
The first user:
Reserves the pallet for the agreement
Moves the pallet to the temporary picking area (where they wait to be loaded).
A second user:
Moves the pallet to the outgate.
Assigns the pallet to the pre-selected Transport Unit
Creating the Scheduled Trip and Transport Unit must be done in Business Central and cannot be done through Stream.
The Scheduled Trip must be created before loading. For Two-step picking, pallet can be reserved before creating the trip and Transport unit.
Only the user handling the loading can close a transport.
Additional options
Moving two pallets simultaneously
The system supports double forklifts, allowing two pallets to be moved at the same time.
Both pallet barcodes are scanned first, followed by the location barcode(s).
Double barcoded Bins
The system supports double scanning to generate a unique Bin Code.
The Bin Code is structed as
[Zone]-[Barcode1]-[Barcode2]
Barcode1 may represent a rack and barcode2 may represent a shelf.
When using double barcoded bins and moving two pallets simultaneously. Barcode2 must be the same for both bins.
Moving two pallets between bins does not work seamlessly with multiple zones. If moving between warehouses, the user must manually switch between zones.
