Entering Sample Weighing

Companies that buy iced fish for processing, e.g. fish factories, use Sample Weighing for finding the proportion of ice in the Total Weight of the Raw Materials. This is necessary for calculating various key figures, such as Yield from Raw Materials and also to determine the size and quality grade ratios. When conducting a Sample Weighing, the fish and ice in a certain number of boxes is weighed and the proportion of ice in the boxes calculated from that.

  1. To enter a Sample Weighing, from the Fishing Trip card’s Actions tab, choose Evaluation/Sample Weighing.

  1. The Evaluation window opens.

  1. Choose the Tub and Raw Material being evaluated.

  2. Enter the Haul Code.

  3. Enter the weight results for a) Tub 1 + Fish+ Ice (i.e. the Weight of the box+ the Weight of the fish in the box + the Weight of the ice in the box).

  4. Then enter the Weight of the box (Tub 1 field) and the No. of Fish in the box.

  5. The fish is then removed from box 1 and put in another box without the ice. The weight of that box + the weight of the fish is entered in the Tub 2 + Fish field. The weight of the box is then also recorded (Tub 2 field).

  6. The Weight of any Excess Catch in the box, not of the species that the Sample Weighing is being conducted for, is entered here.

  7. The system will then calculate the:
    a) Fish (Qty) --the exact weight quantity of the fish in the box by subtracting the box, the ice and extra catch from the weighed box
    b) the weight of the Ice(Qty) by subtracting the box, fish and extra catch from the weighed box, and
    c) the Ice(%) in the box by dividing the weight of the ice by the Net Weight of the weighed box.
