Fishing Equipment Setup

The equipment and fishing method not only affects the quality of the fish caught, but can bring additional value in the market if environmentally friendly catch methods are used. Many processors offer a premium on the price of the catch to the vessel owner for using specialized equipment.

The Fishing Equipment table allows for the calculation of this type of compensation arrangement. For example, fish caught with long lining would be more expensive because you wouldn’t have net marking on the skin.

Creating Fishing Equipment

To look up and create Fishing Equipment in WiseFish search for Fishing Equipment or click on Fishing Equipment under Fishing.

1. To create a new Fishing Equipment click New.

2. Assign a Code and Description for the Fishing Equipment record.

3. Mark if shared with Baiters.

4. Choose the Fishing Compensation applicable to the equipment.

To define a Fishing Compensation, click New in the Compensation field and, for each type of premium offered, specify:
a. The applicable Percentage of the premium

b. The Compensation Type - whether the premium applies to quality of the fish, size of the fish, landing condition of the fish, container size or type, or fishing equipment.

c. If more than one compensation type applies to a trip, use the Formula field to choose if each compensation is to be calculated and applied individually (compensation excluded) as a percentage of the base value of the catch or summed and applied as a combined total (compensation included) with other compensation types.

d. Check the Automatic Calculation field if you wish to have the compensation calculated and applied automatically.

5. Enter, if applicable, the Quota Discount available if this equipment is used and enter the From Day and To Day date range valid for this equipment compensation.
